Little Research of Rare Cancer after Years of Deaths
A recent article in the Baltimore Sun shed some light on the growing interest in finding a better treatment, or potentially a cure, for mesothelioma. There are currently almost 20 clinical trials underway to try and find a cure for mesothelioma. Doctors say the current treatment for mesothelioma hasn’t changed in over a decade due to its uncommonness and the fact that by the time it is diagnosed it is usually too advanced to treat. As a result, more focus has been on litigating claims on behalf of those diagnosed with mesothelioma rather than finding a treatment. Drug company, AstraZeneca, announced it received FDA orphan drug approval for its drug tremelimumab to treat mesothelioma. This designation is given by the FDA to drugs developed to treat rare diseases.
