“60 Minutes” Report Finds High Levels of Carcinogen in Laminate Flooring
A report done by “60 Minutes” showed that laminate flooring sold by Lumber Liquidators contained high levels of formaldehyde which is known to cause cancer. The formaldehyde is in the glues that bind the wood particles together to make the floor boards. “60 Minutes” performed tests on random samples of flooring sold by Lumber Liquidators and found levels of formaldehyde well above those considered safe by U.S. emission standards.
Lumber Liquidators is the nation’s largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring. This potential lawsuit involves the company’s Chinese-made laminate flooring. In particular, the Chinese-made flooring contains unacceptable levels of formaldehyde. The company had sales of more than $1 billion in 2014 and claim that they are committed to safety and providing safe products for their customers.
